LOS ANGELES – LMU baseball fell to UC Santa Barbara 3-1 on Tuesday night at Page Stadium in Los Angeles.
The Lions went with a bullpen game on Tuesday and started with freshman
Alex Chavez. Chavez held his own against a powerful Gaucho top-of-the-order, striking out three while allowing only one run.
The pitching parade that followed saw only one real blip. Tanner Warady worked a scoreless third inning before
Gabe Maya came in and continued his phenomenal season with two perfect innings. Maya has a sparkling 1.59 ERA and opposing batters are only hitting .132 against him.
The backbreaker was a two-out homerun off of
Michael Nunez in the sixth inning.
The Lions struggled offensively for most of the evening, but freshman outfielder
Noah Malone provided a pair of hits in his return to the lineup, including a hustle double in the ninth inning to make the end of the game nervy for the Gauchos.
LMU is back at Page Stadium on the weekend, hosting the Pacific Tigers in a three-game set starting Friday, April 4 at 6:00 p.m. (PT). The Lions will look to move up in the WCC standings, looking to lock up a trip to Las Vegas for the WCC Tournament.
