LOS ANGELES - LMU Goalkeeper Alyssa Barnuevo has been named Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday morning. This is Barnuevo's first weekly recognition with the Lions since joining the program this season.

The 12 saves from Barnuevo was the difference in LMU's 11-9 overtime win at #7 Fresno State last Saturday. The grad transfer made save after save to lift the Lions to victory over a top-10 opponent for the second time this year, and more importantly keep LMU atop the GCC standings in a battle between a pair of conference unbeatens. Barnuevo hit the dozen save mark for the seventh time this season and did not allow a single goal in the final two extra periods after the score was tied 9-9 at the end of regulation. Barnuevo allowed single-digit goals in an overtime game for the first time this season, thanks to her .571 save percentage on the day. Barnuevo played all 38 minutes in the cage for the Lions to record the game-high 12 saves and also added a steal to keep LMU undefeated in conference play.

The win over #7 Fresno State was the highest ranked opponent LMU has beaten this season and highest ranked win since beating then-#6 Fresno State in the regular season last year in 2024. This was the first win over a top-7 opponent in a true road game for Head Coach Ikaika Aki and the first time LMU has beaten a top-7 opponent on the road since beating #6 UC San Diego in 2014.

This is the second GCC Player of the Week honor for LMU this season. The conference recognized Ruth Arino Ruiz with the same award on February 27, 2025.

The #T-11 Lions are one of two 3-0 teams in conference play to date. LMU will have two more league games this week, traveling to Irvine, Calif., to play at Concordia on Friday morning, then hosting Santa Clara on Saturday at Burns Aquatics Center. Admission is free to both games.
