QUEEN'S BEACH, Hawaii – LMU beach volleyball set the tone on the first day of the OUTRIGGER Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic. The #7 Lions opened the day with a 3-2 win over #5 Stanford and then followed that win with a 4-1 win over three-time defending national champions #1 USC. This is the first time the Lions have beat USC in program history, who had won over 30-straight versus the Lions.
LMU opens the season 2-0 and faces off against two more top teams on Friday and Saturday. The Lions will play the hosts #12 Hawaii in the morning on Friday and then #2 TCU in the second game.
One Sunday, LMU will open Sunday's final game against #3 UCLA and then close against #11 Arizona State.
In total, the Lions will have played four of the five top-ranked teams in the preseason poll and all six matchups against top-12 opponents.
