LOS ANGELES – LMU's first half lead vanished after Pacific's offense awoke and LMU's offense struggled to score in the second half. The Lions were held to 22.2 percent (6-for-27) and the Tigers shot 66.7 percent (20-for-30) after intermission to make it a 25-point loss for LMU, 83-58.
For the second straight game, LMU's opponent opened the game with the first seven points.
The Lions responded with the next 10 to take a three-point lead less than four minutes into action.
Caleb Stone-Carrawell and
Will Johnston each hit a three and a two-point field goal in that run. Stone-Carrawell led the Lions with 19 points and Johnston added seven with a team-high three assists.
After Pacific retook a one-point lead, LMU used a 12-2 run to build a nine-point lead, 24-15 at the 10:22 mark.
Aaron McBride started the first 6-0 stretch of that run with an offensive rebound putback and the second 6-0 run with an and-1 dunk.
Alex Merkviladze pushed the lead to nine with a knock down three.
Will Johnston hit a shot at the 3:26 mark for the second 9-point lead of the game for the Lions before Pacific closed the half with eight unanswered points to cut it to a 33-32 game at the break.
The Tigers added to their run with the first 14 points of the second half. LMU missed their first nine shots of the second half and combined for 1-for-17 between the end of the first and first 10 minutes of the second half.
Pacific outscored the Lions 51-25 after halftime.
McBride converted his and-1 dunk of the game after Pacific increased their lead to 22. McBride scored 10 off the bench for his first double-digit scoring game since LMU's win over Prairie View A&M back on Dec. 14, 2024.
Myron Amey, Jr. scored all seven of his points in the second half.
LMU did hit a season-best 93.8 percent (15-for-16) from the free throw line. This was the first time the Lions made over 90 percent of their free throws since Jan. 20, 2024 against Pepperdine.
Pacific's 56.9 percent (33-for-58) shooting from the field in the game is the highest mark the Lions have allowed this year from an opponent.
The Lions will have their third game in five days on Saturday night as they travel to Portland to play the Pilots on the road.
