SAN JOSE, Calif. – The #10 LMU men's water polo team did something against Fresno Pacific that no team in program history had previously done. The Lions scored 31 goals on Saturday afternoon to defeat the Sunbirds and break a program record of 30 goals in a game set in 2023 against La Verne.
Nico Furneaux and
Josiah Yeager scored the game's first two goals and combined for nine total as Yeager scored six and Furneax added three. Four total Lions scored hat tricks as
Tommaso Baldineti,
Nick Leung, and Jonny Mendiburu all finished with hat tricks. The Sunbirds scored once in the first quarter before LMU took a 7-1 lead after the opening eight minutes.
The Lions extended the lead to 15-3 at halftime as the Lions converted on both penalty shot attempts from Furneaux and Yeager, and also had saw two goals in the period from Baldineti and Mendiburu.
The lead ballooned to 23-7 after three quarters, with
Soren Martin scoring the final two LMU goals over the final 1:15 of the period.
Yeager scored goals 28, 29 and tied the program record with his sixth of the game to push the score to 30-10 with 1:14 remaining.
Ryan Boschken's goal with 44 seconds remaining gave LMU the school record.

Eduardo Carraresi, Jaxson Hoover,
Kaden Breaux, and
Roman Saroyan also contributed to the total, each finishing with a score apiece.
In the cage,
Roberto Barrera Sanchez made nine saves and allowed the 10 goals.
The Lions will conclude the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament Sunday morning at 8:00 AM against Bucknell.
