Lopez-Rosales Equalizer Earns Lions Hard Fought Point

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Forward Diego Lopez-Rosales struck in the 28th minute to pull LMU men's soccer level, securing a 1-1 draw with Oregon State at Sullivan Field Thursday evening. The result moved the Lions to 5-3-4 overall and 1-0-2 in West Coast Conference play, extending their unbeaten streak in conference action.

Oregon State took the lead in the 19th minute when midfielder Arnau Farnos converted a well-worked team goal with assists from Andrew De Gannes and Fabian Straudi. The Beavers looked dangerous in the opening stages, but the Lions responded with quality and determination.

Lopez-Rosales provided the equalizer just ten minutes later, finishing brilliantly off an assist from midfielder Wawa Palga to restore parity. The goal marked Lopez-Rosales' fifth of the season and demonstrated the Lions' resilience in bouncing back quickly from adversity. The partnership between Palga and Lopez-Rosales proved decisive as the duo combined to unlock the Oregon State defense.
Goalkeeper Philip Hovers was steady throughout the match, making three crucial saves to preserve the point for the Lions. The sophomore keeper came up big when called upon, denying Oregon State multiple times in both halves to keep the Beavers from regaining the lead.

The Lions created several opportunities to take all three points, particularly in the second half when substitutes Jaxson Hutcheon and Lewis Clutton injected fresh energy into the attack. The home side pressed for a winner in the closing stages but Oregon State goalkeeper John Nicolson made key saves to ensure the match ended level.

The draw extends LMU's positive run in conference play and keeps them unbeaten through three WCC matches. The Lions showed character and fighting spirit in earning a point against a quality Oregon State side, demonstrating the competitive balance they've found as the season progresses.
