Lions Never Trail to Win Third Straight and Even WCC Record

STOCKTON, Calif. – LMU Men's Basketball has won three games in a row after picking up their first true road win of the season on Thursday night at Pacific. The Lions never trailed in the 73-68 win.
 
Jevon Porter hit a three on LMU's first possession to put the Lions ahead from the jump. Caleb Stone-Carrawell added a jumper to push the lead to 5-0 less than two minutes into the game.
 
LMU's first five field goals came from a different starting player as Alex Merkviladze, Aaron McBride, and Will Johnston all a basket in the opening minutes to push the lead to 11-5.
 
Pacific hit back-to-back threes to turn a six-point deficit into a tie game at 13-all with just over 13 minutes remaining in the opening half. Matar Diop completed a three-point play to give the Lions the lead right back. Stone-Carrawell hit back-to-back shots to go ahead by 22-17.
 
Myron Amey, Jr went on a personal 9-0 run with a pair of threes and three free throws on another triple attempt to turn a tie game into a 34-25 advantage over a span of 7:08.
 
The Lions used layups from Jan Vide to go up double-digits on two separate occasions, first at 36-26 and again at 43-32. The Lions took a 43-34 lead into the half.
 
Despite threes from Merkviladze and Porter in the opening stretch of the second half, Pacific pulled within four less than four minutes into the return to action.
 
Amey continued his hot shooting with two more threes to push the lead to 55-47 before a 9-1 Tigers run to tie the game at 56-all with 9:37 on the clock. Another Amey three silenced the run and pushed the Lions back on top with just over nine to play. That Amey three started a 16-9 run over the next 9:14 that gave LMU a 72-65 advantage heading into the final three minutes.
 
Pacific converted an and-1 with 2:13 remaining for the game's final field goal by either side.
 
Amey led all scorers with 24 points, his most since joining the Lions. Amey hit 7-for-12 shots from the floor including a 5-for-8 showing from three and a perfect 5-for-5 from the line.
 
Porter and Stone-Carrawell joined Amey in double-figures with 10 points apiece. Merkviladze and Johnston scored 10 apiece.
 
The Lions shot 45.5 percent ( 10-for-22) from three, the best since conference play begin and second-highest mark this season.
 
LMU only committed seven turnovers in the game, one off the season-low.
 
The Lions will not play Saturday and will return to action Thursday night at home against Portland. The game will tip at 7:00 PM and air on ESPN+.
