LOS ANGELES - Alejandro Fuentesal-Atalaya latched onto a Steven Anderson pass and placed it into the top corner to score his first collegiate goal and send the Lions past Gonzaga 1-0 in the Lions' West Coast Conference opener at Sullivan Field on Saturday night in Los Angeles.  

The Lions have won their last three matches and are unbeaten in five straight starting with the draw against then-No. 1 West Virginia. The last three matches have all been clean sheets and have all been 1-0 victories.  

Ky Mani Dade got his fifth start of the season as head coach Kyle Schmid continues to rotate the goalkeepers. Dade has now gone three straight matches without allowing a goal and has accumulated 12 saves over that time period. His average goals against has dropped below one for the first time this season.  

Dade was only called upon once to make a difficult save. In the 28th minute, one of Gonzaga's forwards found some space in the box to rip a left-footed shot that was heading for the bottom corner. Dade got a strong right hand to it to push it just wide of the bar for a corner kick. The other two saves were straightforward shots right at the young keeper.  

In the second half, the Lions pressed hard coming out of the half and it almost immediately led to the breakthrough. Kayvon Monfared pressed the Bulldogs' defense into a turnover that Anderson picked up. Anderson, playing in his first game this season, made a few quick dekes and slid the ball to Fuentesal-Atalaya sitting at the top of the box. Fuentesal-Atalaya feinted to the left before pulling the ball back to the right and curling it nicely into the top corner.  

The Lions have picked up steam since the lull of the beginning of the season and will look to carry that momentum into conference play. They will be back in action on Saturday, October 5 as they travel to Moraga, Calif. to face Saint Mary's. That match will begin at approximately 1:00 p.m. (PT) and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
