MALIBU, Calif. - The LMU women's cross country team opened up the 2024 season on Friday with a strong showing at the Waves Invitational hosted by Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.
The race was a shorter 4k distance compared to the usual 6k distance ran at the majority of meets.
LMU's top finisher was Hayden Washington. Washington ran a strong race as part of the lead pack and ended up in the top five. Washington finished the 4k course through Alumni Park at Pepperdine with a time of 13:19.1.
Caitlyn O'Neil was the second finisher for the Lions, clocking in at 14:34.6. She finished 27
th overall and was the first of three to finish in rapid succession.
Tessa Kline (14:39.6) and Ava Boyd (14:42.0) were right behind O'Neil and finished in 30th and 32nd respectively.
The Lions finished fifth overall, notching 132 points. The scoring runners averaged 14:33 splits on the 4k course with an average mile time of 5:52.
The Lions will have a few weeks to train before the WCC Championship course preview takes place in San Bruno, Calif. on Friday, Sept. 20.
