LOS ANGELES – LMU beach volleyball head coach
John Mayer and his staff have finalized their incoming class for the 2024-25 season, featuring three transfers and two freshman recruits.
LMU
's incoming class includes Lisa Luini (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Magdalena Rabitsch (Klagenfurt, Austria), Giuliana Poletti Corrales (Asuncion, Paraguay), Ava Slavin (Redondo Beach, CA), and Ingrid Timon-Johnson (Los Angeles, CA).
Lisa Luini, standing at 6'1", brings a rich background after three seasons with the FIU Panthers, where she achieved a 25-9 record last season primarily in the 2s pairs. Her accomplishments include ranked wins over FAU (x2), TCU, LMU (x2), and Stetson. In the Netherlands, Luini has six top-3 finishes on the Dutch Tour, including a first-place finish in Arnhem this past summer, and she placed second at the 2023 Dutch Championships.
Mayer on Luini:Â
"Lisa is a big-time addition to our program. Not only is she a very kind and caring person, but she
's also a really good volleyball player. I think she
's 4-0 in her matches against our program over the last three years, so we are ecstatic to finally get her on our side! She
's a versatile player, able to block, defend, and play right or left side. Lisa is also skilled in playing with and bringing out the best in a variety of personalities. We value adaptability, and Lisa will add a ton to our roster with her wide-ranging skill set."
Magdalena Rabitsch, hailing from Klagenfurt, Austria, completed an incredible freshman campaign at the University of Washington with 20 wins, the 6th most in UW history. She secured ranked wins over Arizona, California, FIU, and TCU, primarily playing at the 1s and 2s pairs. Rabitsch is also a three-time Austrian U21 Champion.
Mayer on Rabitsch:Â
"We were hoping to get Maggie out of high school but unfortunately weren
't able to line things up. Thankfully, we were able to get her on our second opportunity in the transfer portal. She had an incredible freshman season playing at the 1s and leading Washington to their first trip to the NCAA tournament. She has a great jump serve and is an all-around skilled defender, but we are most excited about the personal qualities she
'll bring to our program. Her focus, determination, and drive to be her best will push us all to grow and step up our level."
Giuliana Poletti Corrales, a 5'11" graduate student from Paraguay, brings a wealth of experience after winning two medals on the FIVB beach volleyball tour and securing Paraguay's first-ever Olympic bid for beach volleyball. Prior to becoming an Olympian, Poletti Corrales had an incredible career at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, she amassed 59 wins, the most in TAMUCC program history, and earned multiple accolades including 2x SLC All-Conference selections, an AVCA Top Flight Award at the 1s, and the 2022 SLC Pair of the Tournament.
Mayer on Poletti Corrales:Â
"Wow, what an addition Giuli is! She has won nearly 60 matches at the college level, multiple medals on the world tour, and just secured the first-ever Olympic berth for a Paraguayan volleyball athlete. Adding an Olympian to our roster is huge! Giuli plays with so much fire, focus, and energy that it
's hard not to be drawn to watch everything she does on the court. She
's an elite setter with a big arm swing, but mainly she
's a competitor. We can
't wait for her to come to the Bluff and make an immediate impact on our team!"
Ava Slavin, standing at 5'11", comes from the beach volleyball hotbed of Southern California, specifically Redondo Union. During her time with the Sea Hawks, she played an integral role in leading them to two 2nd place finishes at the CIF State Southern Section Championship, including a 14-3 record this past spring. She has been a notable figure on the CBVA tour with multiple top finishes, including a 2nd place at the Cal Cup Santa Monica Tour Stop. Additionally, she placed 9th at the 2023 AAU Junior National Championship.
Mayer on Slavin:Â
"We
've had the chance to work with Ava throughout her high school career at camps, and she
's always brought such positive energy and curiosity. She
's grown into a really good player and is a great fit for our program because she is a good person and someone who is hungry to learn."
Ingrid Timon-Johnson, a freshman recruit from Marymount High School in Los Angeles, CA, brings a distinguished junior career marked by a AAA rating on the CBVA tour, where she ranked 26th overall in California. Timon-Johnson achieved 3rd place twice in CBVA Santa Monica Opens, as well as 3rd place at the 2022 Cal Cup, 3rd at the 2023 USAV West Coast Championship, and 5th at the 2023 AAU Junior National Championship. Recognized as a VolleyballMag Fab50 recruit—a prestigious list of the nation's top talents in the class of 2024—and previously featured in the VolleyballMag 25 Underclassmen to Watch, she also earned selection to the USAV National Team Development Program.
Mayer on Timon-Johnson:Â
"It
's exciting to add a cerebral volleyball player like Ingrid to our roster. She
's always been someone who finds ways to score points and win matches by combining her physical gifts with her mind. She
's usually a step ahead of the other team with wise decision-making and creative offensive tools. She
's a fun and creative person on and off the court."
