LOS ANGELES – For the first time since 2010, LMU women's water polo has a player selected to the ACWPC Women's All-America Second Team. Reigning Golden Coast Conference Player of the Year
Ruth Arino Ruiz has earned her second-consecutive All-American recognition by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches and her first time as a member of the prestigious second team. Additionally, this is the first time under Head Coach
Ikaika Aki that three total Lions earned All-American status, with
Lior Ben David and
Skye Nankervis each receiving Honorable Mention recognition.
Arino Ruiz was a First Team All-GCC selection and led the Golden Coast Conference in assists with 60 to the second-consecutive season. Arino Ruiz scored 81 goals to set a new career-best mark and led the conference with 141 total points.
In her lone season at LMU, Ben David ranked second in the GCC in assists with 58 and ninth in the conference with 84 total points.
Also, in her first season as a Lion, Nankervis ranked in the top-10 of the GCC in assists (39), points (85), steals (54), field blocks (15), and sprint wins (54).
The trio helped LMU to a program-record 27-3 season, claiming the GCC Regular Season title for the first time in school history.
The ACWPC All-America teams are selected based on nominations and voting by the head coach of each program by National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division (Division I, II, III).
LMU women's water polo has a rich history with All-American selections, as the trio become the 50
th, 51
st, and 52
nd selections in program history.
