SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Lions avenged a heartbreaking defeat on Friday with a rout on Saturday. Devan Ornelas recorded five hits, including a three-run triple and a two-run homer as LMU defeated Santa Clara 20-5 in Santa Clara, Calif. Â

Ornelas got the scoring started for the Lions in the top of the first after the Lions worked some two-out lightning. Benny Casillas and Diego Baqueiro both reached on infield singles before
Daalen Adderley was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ornelas drove the first pitch he saw into the right-center field gap for an easy triple.Â

The Lions added another in the second inning after Sam Biller led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a groundout. He came into score on a
Christian Dicochea sacrifice fly.Â

The Broncos got one back in the third inning, but the Lions roared back with seven in the fourth. Â

Grant Weiss recorded the first RBI of the inning after reaching on an error by the shortstop on a hard ground ball to the left side. Dicochea walked in a run just a batter later. Brendan Bobo recorded a sacrifice fly to bring in the third run of the inning. After a pitching change, Casillas tripled down the left field line to bring in two more. Baqueiro put an exclamation point on the inning with a two-run shot to finish the scoring and give the Lions a commanding 11-1 lead. Â

The Broncos answered with one in the bottom half but the Lions got it right back in the top of the fifth. Â

Robbie Ayers led off the inning with a drive off the center-field wall. Biller followed up with a double into the right-center gap to score Ayers with ease.Â

The Lions added two more in the seventh and it again came with the bases loaded. Adderley and Ornelas both singled to open the inning. Adderley advanced to third on a flyout before Biller recorded the RBI with a sacrifice fly and Ornelas advanced up to second with some good baserunning. Weiss would record another RBI with a double into the right-center field gap, scoring Biller easily. Â

After the Broncos scored three in the eighth, the Lions put it out of reach with a six-run ninth. Â

Biller was hit by a pitch to open the inning before advancing to third on Weiss's second double of the afternoon. Dicochea recorded his first hit of the afternoon and third RBI with a single up the middle. Bobo also notched his first hit of the game with an RBI single through the middle of the field, making sure that every Lions hitter recorded a hit. The Lions got runs on another sacrifice fly and a wild pitch before Ornelas launched his second homerun in as many games with a no doubt shot to right field. Â

The Lions got seven innings of solid work out of Seamus Barrett and Michael Nunez, who picked up his first win of the season with three innings of relief. Conner Kershaw got the last four outs in a painless relief outing for the senior. Â
