ST. LOUIS, Mo. - JD Dunn enjoyed a terrific collegiate debut, but the Lions baseball team fell twice to Saint Louis on Saturday. LMU fell 9-5 in the first game before falling 8-6 in the follow up. Â
Â
GAME ONEÂ
The Lions manufactured a run in the second inning to take an early lead. Â
Â
Daalen Adderley reached on a one out single before stealing second. Benny Casillas came up with two outs and grounded a single between shortstop and third base. Third base coach
Travis Buck gave Adderley the wave and the outfielder scored easily to open the scoring.Â
Â
The lead would be erased with a Billiken grand slam in the third inning. Â
Â
Sam Biller helped cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth inning. He led off the inning with a single up the middle before stealing second and third. He scored on a Diego Baqueiro sacrifice fly.Â
Â
It felt like everytime the Lions scored, the Billikens answered as they scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a commanding lead.Â
Â
LMU battled back with one in the seventh. Joe Reid launched a ball over the left center field fence to bring the Lions closer. It was his first homerun as a Lion.Â
Â
The Billikens answered with a run in the bottom half and one more in the eighth. Â
Â
The Lions continued to battle with a pair in the ninth. Brendan Bobo reached on an error to lead off the inning. Baqueiro hit an infield single to put runners on first and second. Reid walked to load the bases and
Benny Casillas recorded an RBI with a followup walk.
Connor Blough recorded an RBI groundout to first base to mark the final score. Â
Â
Owen Hackman got the start on the mound in game one and allowed seven earned runs. Â
Â
Â
GAME TWOÂ
The Lions started game two with some fireworks. Â
Â
Christian Dicochea doubled down the left field line to lead off the game and Bobo launched a two-run homerun to score a pair. He unloaded on a fastball and drove it into the parking lot beyond right center field. It was Bobo's fourth homer of the season.Â
Â
The Billikens once again answered back with three in the bottom of the first to take the lead back. Â
Â
Dunn got his first collegiate start in game two and excelled. He tied the game in the second inning with a sacrifice fly to record his first collegiate RBI.
Daalen Adderley doubled to lead off the inning before moving to third on a fly ball. Dunn would score him with a fly ball to center field.Â
Â
Saint Louis scored two more in the bottom of the second to take a two run lead. They added one each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take an 8-3 lead. Â
Â
Dunn cut into that lead significantly in the top of the seventh. Reid singled to open the inning before advancing to third on a one-out Brett Zimmerman double down the right field line. Dunn stepped up with two outs and drove a ball just to the left of dead center field that easily cleared the wall for his first career hit: a three-run homerun. Â
Â
The Lions got the go-ahead run to first base in the ninth inning but failed to score.Â
Â
Dunn finished his debut 1-for-2 with four RBIs after the sacrifice fly and also being hit by a pitch. Â
Â
The Lions will look to salvage the series with a win on Sunday, March 10. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. (PT).Â
