Biller's Homers in Third Straight Game, Lions Fall to Tritons

SAN DIEGO – Sam Biller homered for the third straight game and Brendan Bobo added his third homerun of the season, but the Lions fell at UC San Diego 7-5 on Sunday night in San Diego, Calif.

Chaz McRoberts had a strong outing on the mound in his second start of the season. The sophomore right-hander allowed a pair of earned runs over five innings of work while striking out four.

Offensively, the Lions started a little slow but once again showed off the power that head coach Donegal Fergus expressed when he took over the program.

Bobo launched his third homerun of the season in the top of the fifth inning. After the Tritons pulled their starter, Bobo greeted the reliever by depositing his first pitch over the right field fence.

Biller would launch the game-tying homerun in the sixth inning. With five homeruns in the early going of 2024, Biller has already bested his season total from all of 2023.

The Tritons would regain the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Blake Reilly had a tough outing in his second appearance of the week.

Daalen Adderley laced an RBI triple down the right field line in the top of the eighth to give the Lions a lifeline, but the Tritons would put up a pair of insurance runs in the bottom half that would turn out to be the difference.

LMU once again showed how dangerous they can be in the ninth inning, bringing the tying and winning runs to the plate. Joe Reid notched his second single of the game with one out before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Benny Casillas walked before Brett Zimmerman singled to center to score Reid. Khadim Diaw would notch an RBI single as well, scoring Casillas and cutting the lead to two. The Lions would load the bases on a Biller walk before Adderley struck out to end the game.

Casillas notched a pair of hits to go along with a walk in reaching base three times. Diaw also had a pair of hits and was robbed of a third hit when the third baseman made a tough catch on a rocket.

The Lions have a pair of midweek matchups this week, traveling to Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday night before returning home to face Michigan on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (PT).
