Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Lions Go Undefeated at Tina Finale Tournament, Improve Win Streak to 10 Straight

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – LMU women's water polo won all four of their games played at this weekend's Tina Finale Tournament, outscoring opponents by a total of 73-18 over the contests. On Saturday, LMU defeated Cal State East Bay, 18-6, and Ottawa University Arizona, 19-2. The Lions only allowed one first-half goal in each game.
 
Game 1: LMU 18, Cal State East Bay 6
LMU jumped ahead 8-0 before the Pioneers scored a goal. Following a 5-0 first quarter, the Lions took a 10-2 lead into the halftime intermission.

The lead grew to 13-2, with the first three goals of the second half going in favor of LMU. The Lions outscored Cal State East Bay in all four quarters to take the first game of the day.
 
Ruth Arino Ruiz and Skye Nankervis led the team with four goals apiece, followed closely by the three from Noa Sasover. Yanah Gerber scored a pair, while Julia Erwin, Carolina Magano, Kawehi Kauahi, Sophia DeMattia, and Katherine Wastila all added a goal.
 
Inbar Geva made six saves in the cage, and Talia Herbermann added one of her own.
 
Game 2: LMU 19, Ottawa 2
The Lions held a 9-0 advantage until the closing seconds of the first half when the Spirit finally found the back of the cage for their first goal of the game. 
 
LMU's defense produced scoreless quarters in the first and third, outscoring Ottawa 7-0 and 6-0, respectively, in those periods.
 
Kawehi Kauahi led all scorers with five goals. Both Taylor Enright and Sophia DeMattia scored four goals apiece. London Boyd and Mikayla Lopez closed out the scoring for the Lions.
 
Talia Herbermann made six saves and recorded two steals in her 32 minutes in the cage.

Conference play begins with LMU traveling north in two weeks to play at Santa Clara on March 9 and at Pacific the following morning.
