STOCKTON, Calif. –
Justice Hill hit six threes,
Alex Merkviladze recorded his third consecutive double-double, and
Lars Thiemann recorded his first double-double of the season in LMU's 23-point win over Pacific on Saturday night. The Lions won 86-63 to pick up the road win.
After Pacific scored the game's first two baskets,
Alex Merkviladze went on a personal 8-0 run to put the Lions from down four to up four less than five minutes into the game. The run continued as
Michael Graham grabbed two offensive rebounds on the same possession and put it back in for LMU's 10
th-consecutive points.
Justice Hill capped a 7-0 run with a three and free throw line jumper to push the Lions ahead by double-digits 17-6, with 12:35 showing on the first half clock. Hill hit four threes in the first half, with his fourth extending LMU's lead to 32-18 at the 7:19 mark.
Pacific responded with a 9-0 run of their own to cut their deficit down to just five with 4:27 remaining in the half.
The Lions took a 39-30 lead into the locker room after Hill found
Justin Wright on the final play of the half for a corner three.
LMU scored the first seven points of the second half to push the lead to 16 points less than two minutes into play after intermission.
Lars Thiemann started the half with a layup, followed by a Hill three, and ended with a
Will Johnston basket.
Thiemann hit the next four field goals for the Lions to bring the score to 54-39. Thiemann scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
The Lions continued to hit baskets in the second half, shooting 52.8 percent (19-for-36) from the field after intermission.
LMU ended the game on an 9-0 run capped off by a corner three to beat the shot clock by
Lamaj Lewis.
Hill matched his LMU season-high with 24 points. He led the team with seven assists. Johnston accounted for six assists of his own to go along with his 10 points.
Merkviladze finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lions only committed three turnovers for a 19-to-3 assist-to-turnover ratio.
One week remains in the West Coast Conference regular season. LMU hosts San Diego on Thursday night for the season's final home game at Gersten Pavilion.
