SAN DIEGO – Sam Biller homered in the second straight game, Robbie Ayers notched three hits including a homerun, but LMU fell to Utah 9-5 on Saturday afternoon in the Tony Gwynn Classic in San Diego, Calif.Â

Ryan Towers got the start on the hill for the Lions and threw 4.1 effective innings before turning the ball over to Cole Stucky. Towers allowed a pair of earned runs. Stucky got out of a jam to finish the fifth.Â

Ayers was fantastic offensively and behind the dish. He homered to lead off the second inning and added a pair of singles in his ensuing plate appearances. He also threw out a runner at second base in an important stolen base attempt. Â

Biller launched his fourth home run of the season to give the Lions a lead in the fifth inning. It was his fourth homerun of the season, matching his season total from last season. Â

LMU manufactured a pair of runs to extend their lead in the sixth. Ayers led off with a single before Joe Reid walked and Brendan Bobo was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Benny Casillas and Trey Becker hit back-to-back sacrifice flies to score two more.Â

LMU pitchers struggled in the seventh inning as the Utes put up six runs.Â

The Lions will finish off their first San Diego road trip of the season with a trip to UC San Diego on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (PT).Â
