SAN DIEGO, CA – The Lions came close to securing a victory in Saturday afternoon's game against the San Diego Toreros, ending with a score of 50-66.
 
Sydney Gandy led the Lions with 11 points. She also hit her 1000 career point during the game's first few minutes.
 
Nicole Rodriguez and Da'Ja Hamilton also had solid performances, with nine points each.
 
In the opening quarter, San Diego got the early advantage, going on a 7-0 scoring streak and establishing a 9-2 lead over LMU. However, the Lions began to rally with 3:18 remaining in the quarter. Hamilton's jumper started a 12-point consecutive surge, culminating in Gandy's layup that marked her 1000th point. As a result, the Lions entered the second quarter with a 14-9 lead.
 
In the second quarter, both teams exhibited aggression, staying closely matched with the score being leveled twice. The Toreros managed to outscore the Lions by eight points, making 6 out of 14 field goals, giving them a slight lead of 24-21 at halftime.
 
As the third quarter began, both teams continued their aggressive play, quickly scoring baskets in the opening minute. However, the Lions struggled to find the basket thereafter, shooting at a 23.1% accuracy compared to the Toreros 47.4%. San Diego expanded their lead to 45-33 by the end of the third quarter. Despite the Lions persistent effort and determination, their shots did not find the mark, leading to a final score of 66-50 in favor of the Toreros.
 
The Lions next game is Thursday, Feb. 22, against the Saint Mary's Gaels at 7 pm. It will also be the Lions Play 4 Kay game.
