SAN JOSE, CA – The Lions defeated the San Jose State Spartans, 82-71, on Saturday afternoon, extending their winning streak to six games.
Naudia Evans delivered a standout performance, setting a career-high with 32 points. She shot an impressive 11-20 from the field, 2-3 from beyond the arc, and 8-9 from the free-throw line, contributing five rebounds and six assists.
Brandi Williams was equally impactful, scoring 19 points and showcasing her precision from the charity stripe with a flawless 12-12 performance. She added five rebounds and two assists to her stat line.
Carly Heidger had a breakout game, recording a season-high 15 points on 5-7 shooting from the field, marking her first double-digit scoring effort of the season.
The Lions started strong, opening the game with a 7-0 run and shooting 75% from three-point range in the first quarter. Heidger hit two from deep, helping LMU take a 20-13 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, LMU's dominance continued. They shot 53.8% from the field while holding the Spartans to just 23.1%. Evans closed the half with a pair of free throws, giving the Lions a commanding 38-23 lead at the break.
San Jose State mounted a 16-2 run in the third quarter to trim the Lions' lead to one, but Evans responded with back-to-back buckets to push the advantage back to five. She scored 15 points in the quarter, including a buzzer-beater, as LMU ended the period ahead 55-48.
The Lions sealed the game with a strong fourth quarter, opening with a 9-0 run to regain a double-digit lead. Williams shined in the final period, scoring 15 points, including her perfect 12-12 performance from the line, highlighting her aggressive offensive play. LMU shot 50% from the field, 50% from three, and 94.7% from the free-throw line in the quarter, outscoring the Spartans 27-23 to secure the victory.
The Lions next game is on Sunday, Dec. 15, against Wichita State in Gersten Pavilion.
