Lions Outlast Titans in Overtime

LOS ANGELES, CA— The Lions pulled off a tight 64-61 win over Cal State Fullerton in an intense overtime matchup Wednesday afternoon, extending their winning streak to four games. This marks the best season start for LMU since 2018.

Naudia Evans delivered an impressive performance, finishing with 13 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.

Maya Hernandez secured another double-double, contributing 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Ali'a Matavao added 13 points and nine rebounds to the Lions efforts.

Brandi Williams also reached double digits, scoring 11 points, including three critical free throws that pushed the game into overtime.

The Titans came out strong, opening with a 9-0 run to take a seven-point lead. However, the Lions rallied late in the first quarter, cutting the deficit to three at 12-9. In the second quarter, key baskets from Evans and Madison Watts helped LMU surge ahead, with Hernandez's fast-break layup giving them a 17-14 lead. The Lions carried the momentum into halftime, capped by Matavao's buzzer-beater layup, to lead 27-22.

After the break, CSUF responded with an 8-0 run to reclaim the lead, but Carly Heidger's seven-point streak shifted the momentum back to LMU, putting them ahead 34-30. The Lions maintained their edge, entering the fourth quarter with a 42-39 advantage.

The final quarter saw a back-and-forth battle, with the Titans briefly reclaiming the lead. Williams stepped up in the clutch, sinking three free throws with nine seconds left to tie the game and force overtime.

In overtime, LMU set the tone early with a 4-0 run and maintained their advantage the rest of the way. Key free throws by Matavao and Williams sealed the deal and gave the Lions the 64-61 win.

LMU will look to continue their streak next Wednesday, Dec. 4, against Life Pacific at 6 PM in Gersten Pavilion.
