OREM, UT – The Lions extended their winning streak to three games with a 76-68 victory over the Utah Valley Wolverines on Friday night.
Naudia Evans led the charge for LMU, recording an impressive double-double with 15 points and 12 assists.
Maya Hernandez also contributed 15 points, while
Ali'a Matavao had an efficient night, scoring 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and pulling down five rebounds.
LMU came out strong in the first quarter, shooting over 50% from the field while holding the Wolverines to 30%. Their offensive rhythm carried into the second quarter, where they added 15 points. Utah Valley responded with an 18-point second quarter, narrowing LMU's lead to 33-32 at halftime.
The Lions started the second half with back-to-back baskets from Hernandez and
Zawadi Ogot. However, the Wolverines jumped ahead during a 5-0 run, taking their first lead at 42-41. LMU regained control when
Amelie Sitterud's three-pointer tied the game, sparking momentum for the Lions. They posted their highest-scoring quarter of the game with 24 points on an impressive 76.9% shooting (10-of-13), finishing the third quarter up 57-53.
In the fourth quarter, Evans shined with eight points, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. While Utah Valley tied the game briefly,
Brandi Williams,
Carly Heidger, and Matavao combined for 11 points to secure the 76-68 win for LMU.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 27, hosting Cal State Fullerton at Gersten Pavilion.
