PORTLAND, Ore. - The LMU men's soccer team fell to Portland 5-0 on Saturday night at Merlo Field in Portland, Ore.
The Pilots went into the break leading by a pair and added three more after the half.
The Lions had a golden opportunity to add a goal back late in the second half.
Alejandro Fuentesal-Atalaya made a darting run into the right side of the penalty area. He made two defenders miss before sliding an inch perfect cross through to
Mydas Smalls, but Smalls' right-footed effort cleared the bar.
Massimo Oedekoven Pomponi kept the Lions in the game with seven saves, including three acrobatic saves that punched away goals that were right on the doorstep.
The Lions finish up the season with a pair of matches, one on the road and one at home. On November 9, the Lions travel to Santa Clara before San Diego comes to town on Nov. 16 for senior night. Both matches are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (PT).
