Lions Dominate Dons in Straight Sets to Extend Win Streak

LOS ANGELES - The Lions extended their winning streak to nine matches with a 3-0 victory over the San Francisco Dons Thursday night.

LMU got on the board early with a kill from Sophia Meyers. The Dons kept pace, tying the score three times, but another Meyers kill started a four-point flurry that concluded with a block from Jiana Lawson and Marlee Arrington, putting the Lions up 9-5. Midway through the set, LMU pulled ahead with three straight points, fueled by kills from Sophie Stephenson and Paige Flickinger and a block from Flickinger and Lawson, pushing the lead to 13-7. LMU maintained control and sealed the set with a kill by Flickinger.

Set two saw the Dons gain an early advantage, jumping ahead 8-4 after a four-point streak, which led to an LMU timeout. USF stayed aggressive with 3-0 runs, but the Lions responded quickly. LMU tallied three consecutive kills and scored five straight points, narrowing the gap to 17-16. Arrington's kill evened the score, and LMU took the lead following a Lawson kill, making it 21-20. The set remained tight with two more ties before LMU closed it by taking the final three points, winning 25-22.

The Lions carried their momentum into the third set, going on a six-point rally to take a commanding 10-3 lead. Lawson's kill extended the advantage to 13-6, and she added another to kick off a four-point rally that put LMU ahead by 12. After the Dons managed a single point, LMU surged again, finishing the match with a six-point run capped off by a service ace from freshman Kyla Firestone. The Lions clinched the set 25-8 and secured the 3-0 sweep.

Flickinger led all players with 12 kills, while Arrington followed with 10 kills on a .643 hitting percentage and a .714 kill rate. Mia Schafer contributed 21 assists, with Lawson leading the team with six blocks. Delfina Schuh and Sam Hastings both tallied 12 digs each.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, Nov. 16, when they face the Santa Clara Broncos at 2 p.m. in Gersten Pavilion.
