LMU Secures PCH Cup Win Against Pepperdine

MALIBU, CA – On Saturday afternoon, the Lions took the first PCH Cup win against the Pepperdine Waves, 64-50.
 
On Saturday afternoon, the Lions secured their first PCH Cup victory against the Pepperdine Waves, finishing with a score of 64-50.
 
Alexis Mark delivered an impressive performance, notching her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Da'Ja Hamilton led the game with 13 points, eight of which were scored in the first quarter, shooting 2-2 from beyond the arc and 2-2 from the free-throw line.
 
Daylee Dunn had a standout game, achieving her highest point total as a Lion with 12 points, hitting 4-6 from three-point range.
 
Within the first few moments of the game, the Lions quickly scored with a jumper by Alexis Mark. Maintaining a four-point lead, LMU saw Pepperdine make a comeback with five consecutive points, equalizing the score and subsequently taking the lead at 9-8. The Lions regained control when Dunn sank two crucial three-pointers, securing a seven-point advantage. LMU showcased their sharpshooting skills from beyond the arc, hitting 71.4% with a 5-7 record. The quarter concluded with LMU in the lead at 23-14.
 
An early foul by the Waves sent the Lions to the free-throw line, allowing them to score first in the second quarter. The Lions displayed strong defensive play, forcing the Waves into seven turnovers. With just 1:14 remaining in the quarter, Dunn nailed a three-pointer, propelling the Lions to a double-digit lead at 33-22. While Pepperdine managed the last bucket of the quarter, LMU maintained the lead heading into halftime with a score of 33-24.
 
The third quarter kicked off on a high note for the Lions, showcasing outstanding defense and energy. They also displayed a 50% shooting accuracy from the field and beyond the arc. A standout moment in this quarter was the buzzer-beater layup executed by Amaya Oliver, assisted by Noelle Yancy, extending the Lions' lead to 14 points with a score of 51-37.
 
Remaining assertive in the fourth quarter, the Lions initiated a 7-0 run with a three-pointer from Mark, securing their largest lead of the game at 21 points with a score of 58-37. While the Waves tallied the final four points, the margin was too substantial to impact the outcome.
 
The Lions next game is Thursday, at 6 PM, against the Pacific Tigers in Stockton, CA.
