SAN FRANSISCO –The Lions fell short to the San Francisco Dons, 48-61, Thursday night in San Francisco.
Amaya Oliver showcased a strong performance, leading the Lions with 11 points, contributing three rebounds and two steals.
Da'Ja Hamilton also played a key role, scoring 10 points and leading the team with three assists.
The initial quarter stayed competitive, with the lead never exceeding two points. A notable moment for the Lions in this quarter was
Soufia Inoussa reaching her 1000th point, giving them an 8-6 advantage. The Lions concluded the quarter with the last basket, taking a one-point lead at 12-11.
Ava Toone set the tone in the second quarter by sinking a three-pointer early on, bringing the score to 14-11. The Lions extended their lead to seven, 22-15, courtesy of consecutive layups by Hamilton. However, the Dons narrowed the gap, trailing by only two points at the quarter's conclusion, with a score of 24-22.
In the third quarter, the score tied two times before San Francisco went on a 12-0 run and took the lead, 38-28 The Lions responded with four points, but as the quarter concluded, the Dons added the final seven points, maintaining a 12-point advantage over the Lions at 45-33.
In the fourth quarter, the lead reached 14 points; however, the Lions remained resilient. Despite narrowing the deficit to single digits three times, the Dons secured the victory by scoring the final two baskets, ultimately winning the game by 13 points.
The Lions next game is Saturday, Jan 27, against the Pepperdine Waves at 2 PM in Gersten Pavilion.
