2023 LMU Men's Water Polo Schedule
LOS ANGELES – For the first time in the history of the West Coast Conference, men's water polo is a sponsored sport. Men's water polo will become the 16th WCC-sponsored sport, when competition begins in the fall of 2023. The seven-team conference will consist of four WCC member institutions – LMU, Pacific, Pepperdine and Santa Clara – currently fielding men's water polo programs, and three affiliate members – Air Force, California Baptist and San Jose State.
The Lions will open Head Coach
John Loughran's 27
th season leading the program with the home LMU Invite on Sept. 2 at Burns Aquatics Center. The three-game will feature Occidental, La Verne, and LMU each playing the other two opponents.
Sept. 6 will mark the debut of the pool's newly installed permanent lights with a night game against Cal State Fullerton at 7:00 PM.
LMU will play a total of eight home games before hitting the road, with Pepperdine coming to the Bluff on Sept. 9, Stanford coming on Sept. 10, George Washington playing on campus on Sept. 15, and a second mini tournament scheduled for Sept. 23 featuring UCSB and San Jose State.
The Lions will then leave Los Angeles for the first time on Sept. 27 to play at UC San Diego for the first of two matchups on the season against the Tritons.
The first edition of the WCC-Big West Challenge will be played in Irvine on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, with the Lancer Invite scheduled for the following weekend in Riverside.
The first-ever WCC conference game will be played in Malibu against Pepperdine on Sunday, Oct. 15.
LMU will host UCSD in the return trip from the Tritons on Oct. 21. The first home WCC matchup will be under the lights against Air Force on Oct. 27.
Following conference games at Santa Clara and San Jose State the weekend of Nov. 3-5, LMU will return home to play CBU on Nov. 9 in another night game.
A non-conference game at Long Beach State on Nov. 10 and then the home finale on Nov. 12 will close out the regular season.
The WCC Tournament will be played in Malibu from Nov. 17-19.
