LMU Drop Opener to Toreros

LOS ANGELES – LMU fell to San Diego 11-1 on Friday night in the opening game of an important series between the two top teams in the West Coast Conference.

The Toreros jumped on left-hander Diego Barrera for three runs in the first before he settled in for a bit. He gave up three more in the fifth and three more in the seventh. It was an atypical outing for Barrera, as he did not record a strikeout.

The Lions were hitting the ball hard and getting on base, but they could not get a clutch hit when the moment arose. They left 14 runners on base as a team.

Khadim Diaw had three hits, Diego Baqueiro notched a pair of hits, and Devan Ornelas had two hits of his own to account for seven of the Lions' 11 hits overall.

The Lions loaded the bases in the first inning before promptly leaving them loaded. They left two runners on in the second, fourth, and seventh innings.

The two teams meet again on Saturday, April 29 at 6:05 p.m. (PT) with senior right-hander Zach Kirby taking the mound for the Lions. He is unbeaten in his last five starts, notching 38 strikeouts over 32 innings.
