LOS ANGELES – The LMU baseball team fell to San Diego 6-3 on Saturday night at Page Stadium
Zach Kirby pitched 7.1 gutsy innings, scattering seven hits, walking four and striking out six. The senior right hander pumped his fist at the end of the sixth and seventh innings after escaping a couple tough jams. He allowed two earned runs and continued his string of unbeaten starts.
The Lions fell behind in the fourth inning and the Toreros extended their lead to three in the top of the fifth. The Lions got their first run in the bottom half of the inning.
Cole Roberts was issued a one-out walk before advancing to third on
Benny Casillas's single to left field.
Khadim Diaw flared a ball to shortstop and beat out the return throw to first on the attempted double play to record an RBI fielder's choice.
The Lions were not finished as they tied the game up in the seventh inning. Roberts walked and advanced to second on a Casillas groundout. Diaw recorded his second RBI of the night with a single to right field, scoring Roberts easily from second. LMU would load the bases after
Sam Biller reached on an error and
Jared Thomas singled through the left side.
Diego Baqueiro knotted the game with a sacrifice fly to left field. The call was appealed by the San Diego coaching staff to no avail.
The Toreros would get two in the eighth and one in the ninth to mark the final tally.
The Lions and Toreros will finish out the series on Sunday, April 30 at 1:05 p.m. (PT) at Page Stadium.
