Lions Fall to Rebels

LOS ANGELES – LMU baseball fell to UNLV 12-8 on Monday night at Page Stadium in Los Angeles. 
 
The Lions scored first but could not carry the momentum with them. It was their first loss of the season when scoring in the first inning.  
 
Khadim Diaw walked to lead off the game in the bottom of the first and scored on a Sam Biller double into the right center field gap.  
 
The Rebels would put up four runs in the third and one in the fourth to take a commanding 5-1 lead. 
 
Dylan Dennis lined an RBI single into right field to cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the fourth.  
 
The Rebels would get two in the fifth and two in the sixth to increase their lead to seven.  
 
The Lions clawed one run back on a Cole Roberts sac fly in the sixth. 
 
The back and forth would continue as the Rebels put up two more in the seventh.  
 
After that, the Lions started to gain some traction. LMU earned three straight walks courtesy of Diego Baqueiro, Connor Blough and Dennis. Two of them would come into score on a pinch-hit double from Robbie Ayers.  
 
The following inning, Baqueiro would send a drive into the fog for a double that scored Diaw from second base.  
 
UNLV would get one more run in the top of the ninth. 
 
LMU would plate a pair in the bottom half for the final tally. Dennis singled up the middle before pinch-hitter Grant Weiss was hit by a pitch. Brett Zimmerman would ground a ball through the right side to load the bases. Khadim Diaw singled to shortstop to plate Dennis from third and Biller notched another RBI with a groundout to third, but that would be it for the Lions in the ninth. 
 
The Rebels will be back tomorrow, Tuesday, Apr. 11 for a 2:05 p.m. (PT) start to finish the series.
