SAN FRANCISCO – The Lions sent 11 batters to the plate in a six-run third inning, fueling a 13-4 win in game two of the three-game West Coast Conference series with San Francisco at Benedetti Diamond in San Francisco. Â
Â
Benny Casillas led off the third inning with a single to the opposite field. He fell behind 0-2 before working the count full and lining a ball into right field for the first hit of the game. Khadim Diaw would follow with another single and
Sam Biller would get hit by a pitch to load the bases. The first run came on a
Jared Thomas groundout. Diaw scored on a
Diego Baqueiro line drive single up the middle. Blough followed up with a single through the right side to plate Biller.
Dylan Dennis followed Blough with a double into the left-center field gap to score Baqueiro. The final two runs of the inning scored on a
Cole Roberts double that snuck inside the third base bag.Â
Â
The Dons put up one in the third and two in the fourth to cut the lead in half, but the Lions were not finished scoring. Â
Â
The Lions got two runs back in the sixth. Diaw led off the inning with a clean double into the left-center field gap. Thomas came up two batters later and laced a ball into right field for an RBI single. Thomas advanced to second on a groundout and then scored on Blough's second hit of the afternoon, a double to right. Â
Â
LMU put up another run in the eighth and it again came courtesy of Blough. Thomas doubled down the left field line before Blough recorded his third RBI of the game with a double to left-center field. Â
Â
Four more runs came across in the top of the ninth for some added insurance. Brett Zimmerman led off with a line drive single up the middle of the diamond. Roberts followed with a double to left-center before Casillas plated Zimmerman with a sacrifice fly. Diaw and Biller would work back-to-back walks to load the bases. Baqueiro stepped up with two outs, worked the count full, then blasted a ball off the netting in right field for a bases-clearing double. Â
Â
The Dons would get one back in the bottom half for the final tally. Â
Â
Zach Kirby got the start for the Lions and went eight innings, allowed three runs and struck out seven. Will Grimm came in to work the ninth and gave up one run and struck out a pair. The Lions have only walked a single batter in the series, with the team striking out 17 batters in the two games. Â
