Dons Avoid Sweep in Series Finale

SAN FRANCISCO – LMU fell to San Francisco in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 walkoff loss to the Dons in 11 innings at Benedetti Diamond in San Francisco.

The Lions got a phenomenal outing out of starting pitcher Owen Hackman. Hackman threw 7.2 innings of one-run ball. He struck out six Dons and walked only a pair.

Logan Hurd came in to finish the eighth and got a strikeout for his eighth consecutive appearance without allowing a run.

Merrick Baldo came on for the save, holding onto a one-run lead in the ninth and was unlucky to allow a run and send the game into extra innings. The Dons eventually homered in the bottom of the 11th inning to win the game.

Khadim Diaw provided significant offense for the Lions. The sophomore outfielder went 3-for-5 with a homer and a double. He blasted a 3-2 pitch over the scoreboard in left field for his fourth round-tripper of the season.

The Lions got on the board in the fourth inning when Connor Blough walked to lead off the inning. It was the 12th consecutive game Blough has reached base. Blough stole second and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Dylan Dennis singled through the right side with the infield drawn in to get the Lions on the board.

After the homer in the fifth, the Lions would be held scoreless until the end of the game.

The Lions are off to a very hot start offensively since West Coast Conference play has begun. The team is slashing .282/.388/.426 in conference play. Diego Baqueiro, Dennis, Diaw and Blough have all gotten off to great starts as the calendar turned to the conference season.

Not only are the bats hot, but Lions pitching has been exceptional to this point as well. The LMU pitching staff is sitting on a 4.26 ERA through 58 innings of work in conference play. They punched out 50 batters against just 15 walks.

The Lions will finish the four-game road trip on Monday afternoon against UC Davis at 12:00 p.m. (PT). The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on LMULions.com.
