Blough, Barrera Lead Lions Past Dons

SAN FRANCISCO – Connor Blough recorded his first collegiate homerun, Diego Barrera went seven strong innings and the LMU baseball team defeated San Francisco 6-2 on Friday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond in San Francisco.

Barrera continued to impress in his sixth start of the season. He went seven innings, allowed a pair of runs and struck out seven Dons.

He handed the ball over to Logan Hurd and then eventually to Merrick Baldo as they combined for a pair of scoreless innings.

Barrera's start was bolstered by early offense. With the bases loaded in the first inning, Dylan Dennis slapped a single into right center field for a pair of RBI and to give the Lions a first inning lead.

The Lions would get three more off the bat of Blough. Jared Thomas reached on an error by the shortstop before Diego Baqueiro singled to center to put two runners on. Blough stepped up and blasted a 1-0 pitch over the high fence in right field.

The Dons would get one back in the bottom half of the third and in the bottom of the fifth.

Dennis would come up in the top of the seventh to add some insurance. Baqueiro doubled down the right field line to lead off the inning before advancing to third on a ground out. With the infield drawn in, Dennis grounded a ball through the hole in the right side for his third RBI of the game. That is back-to-back games with three RBI for the senior.

Baqueiro reached base four times in the contest and has been unconscious since the beginning of conference play. The junior is slashing .625/.684/.938 since the calendar turned to WCC play. Dennis has also started heating up, slashing .400/.421/.600 in WCC play.

The Lions have two more matchups with the Dons as the weekend progresses before a Monday afternoon meeting with UC Davis.
