LOS ANGELES – Three Lions finished in double digits in a much needed, 79-66, win against the Saint Mary's Gaels.
 
In the first quarter alone, both Nicole Rodriguez and Alexis Mark scored 10 points a piece. Mark was perfect in every aspect shooting 100% from the field (3-3), three-point line (2-2) and free throw line (2-2). At the end of the quarter, the Lions would lead the Gaels by 13, 31-18.
 
The second quarter started with six straight points for the Lions extending their lead to 19 points. Towards the end of the quarter Saint Mary's would go on a 9-0 run, but the Lions were still up by double digits. The quarter ended with an easy two by Rodriguez with :01 seconds left.
 
LMU led by 11 going into halftime, 47-36.
 
In the third quarter the Lions started to cool off while the Gaels started to get hot. The Lions scored eight points to the Gaels 17. The double-digit lead LMU once had dwindled to a two-point difference, 55-53.
 
A three-pointer by the Gaels at 7:42 in the fourth quarter tied the score for the two teams, 59-59. Both teams would go back and forth until the Lions went on an eight-point streak regaining the lead, 72-64. Seven made free throws for LMU would seal the deal and give the Lions their first win of 2023, 79-66.
 
Cassandra Gordon scored 14 points in the fourth and finished with a total of 21 points for a new career high.
 
Rodriguez also finished with 21 points while Mark finished with 18.
 
The Lions next game is Feb. 9 against the San Diego Toreros in San Diego.
