Box Score SAN DIEGO, CA – The LMU women's basketball team dropped to the San Diego Toreros Thursday evening, 64-56.
 
The Lions started the first quarter scoring the first four points of the game thanks to Alexis Mark and Amaya Oliver. The Lions would lead most of the quarter until a three-pointer by the Toreros put San Diego up by one. The Toreros would lead the rest of the quarter going into the second, 11-16.
 
A three pointer by Nicole Rodriguez opened the second quarter putting LMU within two of the San Diego. At the 7:04 mark, Destiny Samuel made a layup put the Lions back up by one point, 23-22. The Toreros followed with two made layups taking the lead back. With 2:03 left in the quarter Ariel Johnson would nail a jumper making that the last basket of the half. San Diego. Would lead by one, 27-28.
 
Coming into the second half the Toreros knocked down a jumper within 50 seconds of the game extending their lead by three. Both teams went basket for basket until Rodriguez drained a three followed by a layup by Mark putting the Lions up four, 40-36. Towards the end of the quarter San Diego scored four in a row only trailing LMU by one, 43-42.
 
Early in the fourth quarter the Toreros went on an 8-0 run leading the Lions by seven points, 52-45. Khari Clark made a layup soon after, but San Diego followed with two more baskets. The Lions tried to come back with 2:38 left making another layup and two free throws, but it wouldn't be enough to come out with the win. The Toreros beat the Lions, 64-56.
 
The Lions next game is Saturday, Feb. 11, against the BYU Cougars in Provo, UT.
