LOS ANGELES – Three Lions finish in double digits in a close, 61-51, loss against the San Francisco Dons.
The Lions opened up the game scoring the first five points of the game thanks to
Khari Clark and
Nicole Rodriguez. LMU would go on another run leading the Dons by seven. Towards the end of the quarter the Dons would go on 5-0 run cutting the deficit to two, 13-11.
In the second the Dons knocked down a three pointer that would take the lead from the Lions by one. San Francisco would hold the lead until back-to-back three pointers from
Alexis Mark and
Aspyn Adams put the Lions back up. The Lions would continue to score and finish the half on top, 26-22.
The Lions out-shot the Dons by 7% from the field. LMU also outshined San Francisco on multiple stat lines as well by grabbing more rebounds (25), making more threes (3-8) and shooting better at the line (3-6).
Coming out of the locker room both the Lions and Dons would take turn leading the game. At the 6:36 mark, LMU sparked some momentum and went on a 10-0 run and led San Francisco by nine, 40-31. The Dons quickly answered back and went on a run of their own and at the end of the quarter only trailed by two, 40-38.
In the fourth quarter the Dons started to creep up on the Lions with every possession. Midway through the quarter the Dons went on a six-point streak that would put them over the Lions. LMU tried to fight back but couldn't catch up to San Francisco. The Dons would win the game by 10 points, 61-51.
Cassandra Gordon and
Ariel Johnson both finished the game with 10 points apiece. Clark would finish with 12.
The Lions next game will be next Thursday, Mar. 2, in Las Vegas as the conference starts WCC tournament play.
