Lions Season Comes to An End at WCC Tournament

LAS VEGAS – The post season ended early for the Lions as they took a loss to the Saint Mary's Gaels, 43-74, Thursday afternoon.

This was the third time the Lions faced the Gaels this season beating them the previous two times.

Saint Mary's opened the game scoring the first seven points giving them the lead over LMU. A jumper by Ariel Johnson would finally get the Lions on the board and enroute to catching the Gaels.

The Lions trailed the Gaels by as much as 12 points, but then LMU caught momentum. A made basket by Johnson would spark a 9-0 run for the Lions. With 40 seconds left Amaya Oliver made a layup in the pain that brought the Lions with three of the Gaels, 18-15.

In the second quarter the Gaels went on a six-point streak extending their lead to nine points. Nicole Rodriguez and Oliver gave the Lions their only two baskets of the quarter. Saint Mary's would go on another 11-0 run making the score at the half, 38-20.

Coming out of the locker room the Lions had a new pep to their step even though they trailed the Gaels. Khari Clark knocked down a jumper, from Se'Quoia Allmond, that put the Lions on the board first. The Gaels quickly followed with a layup of their own. Both teams went basket for basket until Saint Mary's hit a jumper and followed with a three pointer. With four minutes to go in the quarter LMU scored five straight points, but still trailed the Gaels. The quarter ended with the Gaels up, 55-37.

Saint Mary's had a phenomenal shooting performance, shooting over 50% in the fourth. Opening the quarter Saint Mary's extended their lead by 11 with LMU having no answer back. LMU would score a couple points here and there, but the deficit was too big for the Lions to catch the Gaels. The Lions would fall to the Gaels, 74-43.

Johnson led the team with 11 points while Alexis Mark led with seven rebounds and three assists.
