NORTHRIDGE, CA – The Lions took down the CSUN Matadors on Thursday afternoon, 77-74. This was the Lions third straight win.
Soufia Inoussa had a terrific game with 19 points on shooting 7-11 from the field, 5-6 from the arc, and had five steals and two assists.
Alexis Mark finished the game with 13 points, shooting 50% from the three-point line, and led both teams with eight rebounds.
Nicole Rodriguez also pitched in 11 points, shooting 5-11 from the field.
Sydney Gandy also led the game in assists with eight.
Early in the first quarter, the Matadors took a three-point lead, but a layup by
Cynthia Ezeja and consecutive three-pointers from Gandy and
Da'Ja Hamilton propelled the Lions to a 17-8, forcing a CSUN timeout. The Lions maintained their lead, finishing the first quarter with a score of 26-20.
The Matadors started to make a comeback, coming within one possession of the Lions, 33-31, capitalizing on several turnovers from the Lions. Despite the turnovers, LMU went into the half leading by one, 38-37.
Mark showcased impressive shooting in the third quarter, sinking three three-pointers that widened the lead by 11. The Lions largest lead of the game was this quarter when Hamilton knocked down a jumper putting LMU ahead of CSUN by 13, 54-41. Later in the quarter, the Matadors went on a 9-0 run and came with four, but the Lions held their ground, heading into the fourth quarter with a 56-50 lead.
During the final quarter, the Matadors managed a slight edge in scoring, outpacing the Lions 24-21. Tension heightened as, with just 1:05 remaining, CSUN executed a flawless layup, narrowing the deficit to four points. In a last-ditch effort, with only five seconds left, CSUN sank a crucial three-pointer, opening the door for a potential upset. However, the Lions would win in a closely contested battle, 77-74.
The Lions next game is Dec. 30 in Beaumont, TX, against the Lamar Cardinals at 2 PM PST.
