LOS ANGELES – The LMU women's basketball team faced a challenging defeat against the UNLV Lady Rebels on Monday night at Gersten Pavilion, concluding with a score of 72-62.
While UNLV took an early lead in the first quarter,
Da'Ja Hamilton's layup and
Amaya Oliver's jumper helped the Lions level the score. The team displayed intense gameplay, going on a 7-0 run and finishing the quarter with a 15-14 score.
In the second quarter, the Lions surged with a seven-point streak, led by senior
Soufia Inoussa contributing four points. A pivotal three-pointer from
Nicole Rodriguez, assisted by Oliver, extended LMU's lead to 22-14. However, UNLV rallied in the final minutes, tying the score at 22 and eventually taking the lead.
Despite trailing 33-28 at halftime, the Lions outscored the Lady Rebels in points in the paint, with eight compared to UNLV's 12.
The third quarter saw UNLV pulling ahead by 14 points, but the Lions made a comeback effort in the fourth quarter. Freshman
Ella Wedin's three-pointer narrowed the deficit to seven points at 55-48. Regardless of their determined efforts, the Lions were unable to defeat UNLV.
Looking ahead, the Lions will face the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson, AZ, on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m.
