SAN FRANCISCO – The LMU men's soccer team fell on the road at San Francisco 3-1 on Saturday night at Negoesco Stadium in San Francisco, Calif.
Tyger Smalls notched his fourth goal of the season in the losing effort.
The Dons got the first goal after winning a corner kick in the 23rd minute. The dangerous cross came in and was met by a USF attacker and Gael Quintero could not keep the ball from going over the line.
As the half was closing, the Dons doubled their lead with a buzzer-beater. With 44:59 on the clock, Massimo Oedekoven Pomponi made a stop but could not stop the rebound. The Lions went into the locker room down a pair.
The Lions thought they had a lifeline through Smalls' tally in the 65th minute. Okeefe Cunningham intercepted a pass at midfield and immediately played forwards to Jovan Prado. Prado found the feet of Smalls, who made a darting run to the right side of goal. He made his way past a pair of Dons defenders and finished across the face of goal at the far post to cut the lead in half.
USF would get that goal back in 81st minute to mark the final tally.
The Lions will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, November 11 against Saint Mary's College. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. (PT) and will be preceded by a senior night celebration to honor the contributions of the men's soccer seniors.
