Men’s Water Polo Never Trails in WCC Win over Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The 12th-ranked LMU men's polo team won on the road Friday afternoon to pick up a West Coast Conference victory at Santa Clara, 15-8.
 
Richie RImlinger and Tommaso Baldineti scored on back-to-back possessions within the first two minutes of the game to put the Lions ahead, 2-0. After the Broncos got the board, Baldineti scored his second to push the Lions ahead 3-1. Santa Clara took advantage of the powerplay to make it a 3-2 game. LMU did not surrender the lead as Jonny Rimlinger scored consecutive goals to extend the lead to 5-2. The Broncos scored the final two goals of the quarter to pull within one, 5-4.

Abel Romero Corbalan opened the second quarter with a goal at the 6:28 mark and Tyler Harvey closed the quarter with a goal at 1:22 to make it a 7-4 game at the half.
 
Both teams scored once in the third quarter. Augie Renezeder scored to close out the period.
 
The action sped up in the fourth quarter as LMU scored seven of the final period's 10 goals. Richie Rimlinger, Tyler Harvey, and Abel Romero Corbalan extended the lead to 11-5 with 6:07. After Santa Clara got one back, Jonny Rimlinger and Alex Marlow each scored to make it a 13-6 game. Baldineti scored late and Brodie Sladek added one in the final minute to close out the game.
 
Reigning WCC Player of the Week Stelios Dalmaras saved nine shots in his 32 minutes. Dalmaras also recorded a steal.
 
The Lions will close out the road trip on Sunday at San Jose State.
