KAPOLEI, Hawaii – LMU men's golf won their third tournament of the 2023-24 season, the most first-place wins in a school year in program history. The Lions were lifted to victory at the Kapolei Invitational behind three top-4 winners, including overall champion
Trevor Algya.
For the second consecutive round, the Lions led the field. LMU shot 22-under on Thursday to finish the event at 276-264-266—806. LMU won the tournament by seven strokes and finished at 58-under for the three rounds. The Lions led the tournament with 82 birdies, and recorded the best averages on both Par 4 and Par 5 holes.
Trevor Algya won the individual title at 72-62-65—199, edging out teammate
Tony Hendricks (66-66-68—200) by a stroke. Algya recorded not only his first win, but first top-10 finish in his 15
th event of his collegiate career. Algya recorded seven birdies in the final round, including four over the final five holes, and led the team with 19.
Hendricks shot an even 200 for sole possession of second place and matching his highest finish as a Lion. Hendricks added five birdies to his total on Thursday.
Riley Lewis shot 65-68-68—201 to tie for third for his 15
th career top-five finish. Lewis added three birdies on the front nine and three more on the back nine to bring his tournament total to 18.
Cade Anderson (73-69-66—208) tied for 25
th in the 114-player field, and added six birdies through the first 10 holes and eight in the round on Thursday.
Mason Snyder also improved his score each round to finish at 76-68-67—211, with six birdies on Thursday.
Competing as an individual,
Caden McMackin shot 69-69-72—210.
This concludes the fall portion of the schedule. LMU will return to tournament play with the N.I.T. from Omni Tucson National Golf Course on Jan. 29 and 30.
