MORAGA, CA – The Lions defeated the Saint Mary's Gael in a 3-0 sweep Thursday night in Moraga.
 
Although SMC initially took the lead in the first set, LMU, led by Kari Geissberger's kill, went on a 7-0 run. The teams remained closely matched, but a pivotal kill by Mia Schafer propelled LMU to a 15-6 lead. The Lions maintained their advantage, securing the set 25-15 with consecutive kills by Michelle Shaffer.
 
The second set began with a service ace from Isabella Bareford, establishing an early lead for LMU. Regardless of SMC closing in, LMU held a five-point lead at 12-7 due to a block by Geissberger and Jacquelyn Moore. The Gaels mounted a comeback, narrowing the gap to three points. However, a crucial kill by Moore, assisted by Bareford, sealed the set for LMU at 25-23.
 
In the final set, SMC took an early lead at 4-3, but LMU quickly regained control with a four-point heave sparked by Amethyst Harper's kill. Despite a couple of ties in the score, LMU maintained dominance and closed the set with a kill by Shaffer, securing a 25-17 victory and completing the 3-0 sweep.
 
Shaffer dominated the game with an impressive 14 kills, while Geissberger and Harper contributed six and eight, respectively. Bareford showcased exceptional skills with 26 assists, followed closely by Schafer with 19. In terms of blocks, Harper and Moore both led the match with four each. Hastings dominated the dig count for the Lions, securing the top spot with 12, while Shaffer closely followed with nine, claiming the second position.
 
The Lions will wrap up the regular season this Saturday, Nov. 18, in Santa Clara, CA, where they will face off against the Santa Clara Broncos.
