SANTA CLARA, CA –
The Lions secured a decisive 3-0 victory over the Santa Clara Broncos in their final regular-season match on Saturday afternoon.
LMU took an early 4-0 lead in the first set, but SCU responded with three consecutive points, narrowing the gap to 4-3. Halfway through the set, the Lions initiated two 3-0 runs fueled by
Maddie Boerstra kills. The second run prompted the Broncos to call a timeout as they found themselves trailing by six, 12-6. The set concluded with an impressive nine-point streak by the Lions, securing a commanding 20-7 lead over the Broncos.
Jacquelyn Moore's kill, assisted by
Isabella Bareford, sealed the deal for LMU, claiming the set victory at 25-14.
In the second set, LMU took the lead with a powerful serve from Bareford. Following a
Michelle Shaffer kill, the Lions went on a five-point flurry, establishing a 7-1 advantage. Two kills by
Amethyst Harper and an SCU error prompted a timeout from SCU, allowing LMU to extend their lead to 11-3. As the set progressed, LMU secured two 4-0 runs, bringing them within five points of clinching the set at 20-6. The Lions ultimately sealed the victory in the set, finishing 25-10, with key contributions from Emmelyn Walters' kill and a solid block by Harper and Walters.
LMU maintained their momentum in the third set, going on a seven-point scoring run that prompted an early timeout from SCU. The game slipped further from the Broncos grasp when a powerful kill from Harper extended the Lionn lead to nine at 12-3, leading to SCU's second timeout. Coming out of the break, the Lions continued their dominance with an additional four consecutive points. The set concluded with a 4-0 run, highlighted by three kills from
Kari Geissberger and Shaffer, along with a service ace from Bareford. The Lions secured the set with a 25-7 victory, ultimately winning the match 3-0.
Shaffer, Geissberger, and Harper dominated the match with nine kills each. Shaffer's flawless performance resulted in an impressive hitting percentage of .643. In the blocking department, Geissberger, Moore, and
Tyler Alcorn led with four blocks each.
Sam Hastings stood out with an impressive 11 digs, surpassing players from both teams.
Mia Schafer had a stellar performance, leading in assists with 15.
