Lions Dominate Dons on Senior Day

LOS ANGELES – The Lions hit .347 as a team with Emmelyn Walters notching four kills including the clinching point as LMU dominated San Francisco in a 3-0 sweep on Saturday afternoon at Gersten Pavilion.

The Lions celebrated their seniors prior to the match in a thoughtful ceremony. Each of the Lions seniors received a framed jersey to remember their time on the bluff.

FIRST SET
A back-and-forth set that quickly evolved into a comfortable LMU win.

With the set close at 8-7, the Lions reeled off seven straight points. Amethyst Harper hit .429 in the match and notched the seventh consecutive point for the Lions.

The Lions cruised to a 25-13 victory in the opening set while hitting .471 as a team and holding the Dons to just .111.

SECOND SET
The Lions used a late-set rally to clinch after the Dons made a furious comeback.

Down 17-11 midway through the set, the Dons scored five straight points to pull within one. They would then take the lead moments later with a run of three straight to take it to 20-19.

The Dons looked like they would take the set after extending the lead to 23-21, but the Lions clamped down hard en route to the set win.

After a service error coming out of the timeout, Michelle Shaffer hammered an ace to knot the score at 23. The Lions would get back-to-back blocks to end the set and set up for the potential sweep.

The Lions defense held USF to just a .083 hitting percentage in the third set and recorded four blocks.

THIRD SET
The Lions bounced back from a rough-hitting second set to once again dominate to the tune of a .441 hitting percentage.

LMU scored 15 of the first 21 points of the set to stake themselves to a huge lead. Kari Geissberger got hot towards the end of that streak, recording four straight kills for the Lions.

The Dons put together a couple of mini-runs to make things close, but Walters ended the match with a swing and LMU claimed the third set 25-20.

Jaquelyn Moore continued her stellar play, hitting .556 on nine swings and recording four blocks on the defensive end.

Harper added another double-double to the collection, totalling 11 kills and 10 digs.

The Lions have two matches remaining before Selection Sunday. They will play on Thursday, November 16, at Saint Mary's before wrapping up WCC play on November 18 at Santa Clara. The Lions have cemented themselves as one of the top offensive and defensive teams in the country, and their body of work speaks for itself as they chase a bid in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
