Kingsford Strike Nets Lions Draw in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. - Ryan Kingsford scored a wonderful, arcing goal to open the scoring and the Lions played the Pacific Tigers to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night in Stockton, Calif.

Kingsford opened the scoring after missing the Gonzaga match after picking up a knock. Kingsford weaved in and out of a pair of defenders before ripping a right-footed shot that banged off the bottom of the crossbar to open the scoring in the 27th minute.

The Lions were reduced to ten men after Bradyn Knutson was sent off in the 37th minute with a red card.

The ten-men Lions held tough before the intermission and well into the second half.

Nathan Rodrigues was close to opening his scoring account and face a pair of saves from the Tigers keeper in the 52nd and 58th minutes. In the 58th, he found some space near the back post and blasted a shot that the keeper batted away to the feet of Tyger Smalls. Smalls made a man miss and fired across goal but just wide of the post.

The Tigers equalized in the 68th minute to mark the final tally.

Smalls and Rodrigues also forced saves as the clock was ticking down towards the end of the match.

Rodrigues had three shots all on target and Smalls registered six shots with a pair on target.

Massimo Oedekoven Pomponi had a chill first half but recorded seven saves after the break.

LMU is back in action on Saturday, October 14 against cross-town rival UCLA in their final nonconference match.
