SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The LMU women's soccer team fell to No. 18 Santa Clara 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in Santa Clara, Calif.
The Lions were inches away from the equalizer in the tenth minute. After taking a pass on the left side, Kylie Dobbs used her right to drive a swerving effort that bruised the crossbar. It would have been her fourth goal from outside the box this season, but first with her right-foot should she have found the back of the net.
The Lions were unlucky to concede just six minutes later. JJ Hoover made a diving parry to deny the opener before the ball rebounded directly to a Bronco attacker. She still had work to do and went over a sliding Hoover to give Santa Clara the lead.
Hoover continued to improve between the posts. She posted seven official saves to mark her season and career high for a match.
The Broncos doubled the lead in the second half.
The Lions struggled to unlock the Broncos defense, but Jennessa Groves did her best to create something in the second half. She blasted an effort to force a save from the Broncos goalkeeper.
LMU will be back home on Saturday, October 28 to host Portland in a matinee matchup starting at 4:00 p.m. (PT).
