LOS ANGELES – The LMU women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Pepperdine on Wednesday night at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles, Calif.
The Lions were looking to keep the momentum going after coming back from a 1-0 halftime deficit against San Francisco on Saturday night but could not recreate their second half success.
Pepperdine struck first and it came after goalkeeper
Ellie Sommers reached up to corral a dangerous cross. The ball squirted out of her hands and into the danger area. After two Pepperdine shots bruised the shins of a pair of LMU defenders, the Waves found the back of the net for the opening goal.
The Lions had a half-chance through
Olivia Winter at the end of the first half. After
Amber McCorkle forced a turnover, Winter took three long strides and fired a low-arcing shot that was pounced on by the visiting goalkeeper.
Kylie Dobbs looked to equalize after the half, similar to her strike against San Francisco. The transfer from Missouri hit a low, driven effort that skipped on the ground before being saved by the Waves goalkeeper.
The Waves got two more in the second half before
Jennessa Groves nearly scored in the waning seconds.
Megan Rucker drove a cross into the near post, and Groves got a toe to it, but the shot went just wide.
The Lions are back in action on the road Saturday, October 21 at Santa Clara. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m. (PT). The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
