SAN FRANCISCO – Kylie Dobbs scored her third goal from outside the box this season as the Lions drew with the host San Francisco Dons 1-1 on Saturday night at Negoesco Stadium in San Francisco, Calif.
The Dons took the lead in the first half with a long-distance effort from USF. The ball was curling away from the goal but snuck in inside the left post to open the scoring and put the Lions in a hole.
Ellie Sommers was between the posts for the Lions. It was her fourth start of the season. She allowed one goal and stopped four shots.
The Lions almost had an equalizer in the first half. Jennessa Groves fired a free kick just high in the 41st minute, leaving the Lions a goal down at halftime.
Kylie Dobbs once again provided firepower for the Lions from the central forward position.
Alex Hobbs provided the feed coming down the left side of the pitch. The feed went to Dobbs' feet and she took two touches before rocketing a left-footed shot into the back of the net.
Sommers' biggest save of the night came in the 81st minute. The Dons had weaved their way through the back line and had a good opportunity. The attacking player fired a shot towards the near post, but Sommers had correctly predicted a near post effort. She caught the ball with some effort to keep the game squared at one.
LMU will be back home on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m. to host Pepperdine in a matchup with the neighbor up the coast.
