Lions Fall Short to Waves in First PCH Cup Match Up

MALIBU, CA – The Lions lost their fourth game in a row Saturday afternoon against PCH Cup rival Pepperdine Waves, 48-68.
 
The game started with a three pointer by Alexis Mark, but the Waves quickly responded back with a three of their own. At 6:53 the Waves went on an 11-point run and took the lead, 7-18. LMU was able to get up one more basket before the quarter ended. Pepperdine took the first quarter, 22-11.
 
Pepperdine opened the second quarter with a quick layup, but LMU followed with an And One by Mark. The Lions and the Waves went back and forth streaking no more than two points apiece. At 8:47 Cassandra Gordon knocked down a jumper that put the Lions within 10 of the Waves. With five seconds left in the half, the Waves made a three pointer that brought their lead back to 20 points, 23-43.
 
Starting the second half the Lions were on the board first. A three pointer from Aspyn Adams sparked a five-point streak for LMU. Pepperdine followed right after with a 5-0 run for themselves making it 50-30. In the last two minutes, the Pepperdine made three free throws  and a jumper that put the Waves up by 21, 36-57.
 
In the fourth quarter, Gordon drained seven straight points for the Lions. The streak was broken by Pepperdine when the Waves knocked down a two pointer that started a 6-0 run. The quarter would close out with a made three ball by Nicole Rodriguez; and the Waves running down the clock. 
 
Gordon finished the game with 19 points and four rebounds. Mark would finish with a double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Lions next game will be Jan. 26 against the Gonzaga Bulldogs in Spokane, WA.
