Lions Fall 55-66 to #17 Gonzaga in Spokane

SPOKANE, WA – The Lions played a hard-fought game against 17th ranked Gonzaga, but fell short to the Bulldogs, 66-55.
 
In the first quarter the Lions started off hot with Nicole Rodriguez knocking down a three that sparked a 7-0 run for LMU. A two pointer by Alexis Mark at 4:19 gave the Lions their biggest lead of seven. The quarter finished with a made basket by the Bulldogs, but the Lions still led, 13-10.
 
The second quarter opened with Gonzaga getting on the board first, but LMU quickly followed with five points of their own. Later in the quarter the Bulldogs would score nine straight points and take the lead from the Lions, 28-26.
 
Rodriguez led the Lions with eight points in the first half while Amaya Oliver led with four. 
 
Within nine seconds of coming out of the locker room Aspyn Adams hit a three pointer that put the Lions up by one over the Bulldogs. The lead didn't last long for LMU when Gonzaga hit back-to-back jumpers making it, 33-29. At one point the lead extended to 10 for the Bulldogs, but the Lions were able to bring it down to seven with two made free throws by Mark with .02 seconds left.
 
Starting the fourth the Bulldogs went on an 11-0 run leading the Lions by 18. Even though LMU was down the Lions didn't give up. Later in the quarter Adams drained a three pointer and Oliver had a second chance layup. The quarter finished with two made free throws by Ava Toone making the final score, 66-55.
 
Rodriguez finished the game with 14 points for the Lions while Mark finished with 11.
 
The Lions next game will take place Saturday, Jan. 28, against the Portland Pilots in Portland.
